My Journey into Education

I’ve always been passionate about learning. Growing up in New York, I dreamed of becoming a doctor and found joy in helping classmates with math and science. But life took an unexpected turn. I became a young mother before finishing high school, and my focus shifted to raising my children.

Even then, education remained central. I taught my kids more than just the required subjects; I also taught them handwriting, cooking, crochet, sports, and creativity, anything to keep their minds growing.
When a safety issue at our local school led my husband and me to choose homeschooling, I earned my GED and fully committed to educating my children at home. Each year, my kids not only met but exceeded state standards on their assessments. In that moment, I understood I wasn’t just taking on a role. I was walking in my purpose as an educator. I was meant to teach.

The Moment That Changed Everything

Watching children go from frustration to confidence lit a spark in me. Their success fueled my passion.
One day, Dr. Moss, a respected principal at a private school, took notice and said, “I need teachers like you.”
Her words gave me the courage to pursue a teaching degree. I returned to college, graduated, and spent the next 11 years teaching in her private school, all while continuing to homeschool my younger children.

Why I Believe in One-on-One Tutoring

While teaching pre-algebra to a class of 15 students, I struggled to meet the needs of every student. Some were behind, others far ahead. I rearranged groups, tutored on Saturdays, and gave everything I had.
By the end of the year, every student had passed. But I learned something important: individualized attention transforms learning.
Later, after stepping away from the classroom to care for my elderly mom, a former student’s parent reached out to me. Her son was struggling in math, and she wanted me to tutor him. After just our session, he lit up and said, “Oh, that’s it?, Wow, I finally get it!” This filled my heart and brought a smile to my face. I was beaming all day.
My own son saw the joy on my face and said, “That’s what you’re meant to do.”

That moment inspired me. With his help, we launch Nurturing Minds Tutorial, a tutoring service that meets learners where they are and helps them rise.
