When Dorian walked into Nurturing Minds, he was just a middle schooler struggling to keep up in math and reading.
Nine months later, he was soaring, and his mom Kiki took notice.
She asked a simple question: “Do y’all help adults too?”
Fast forward, she passed her TEAS exam and became a certified nurse.
Now, years later, it’s her daughter, Morgan’s, turn, and we’re honored to walk this journey with her too.
Because when one family finds a place that builds trust, confidence, and results… they come back.
When Dorian started with us, he was in middle school and struggling, especially in math.
Like many students his age, he had missed some foundational skills along the way.
Once we helped him understand why math works the way it does, and not just how, things started to click.
His reading comprehension and vocabulary also needed strengthening.
Working with our team, he began making real progress.
And I’ll never forget the day he came in beaming with pride over a 95 on a test. From that moment on, there was no stopping him.
While Dorian was still receiving tutoring, his mom, Kiki, asked me, “Do y’all help adults?”
She was preparing for her TEAS exam, a critical step to becoming a nurse, and math was holding her back.
Of course, we said yes.
Her biggest challenge? Conversions, going between metric and standard measurements.
Once I showed her a few key formulas, shortcuts, and how to apply them in context, things became much easier.
We strengthened some of her foundational math skills, giving her the speed and accuracy she needed.
And when she passed her TEAS?
She was elated. Grateful. Overjoyed.
She kept thanking me, but honestly, I was the one feeling thankful to be part of her story.
Recently, we crossed paths again, and Kiki told me her daughter, Morgan, had been struggling in school.
She said, “I know where to go to get results,” and enrolled Morgan with us right away.
It was one of those full-circle moments that make everything we do so meaningful.
Morgan, like many 4th graders, had some gaps.
She understood pieces, but didn’t always know how to apply them, especially in word problems.
Sometimes she wasn’t sure whether to divide or multiply, even when she had the numbers right. We started working on her foundation.
That’s a word we say a lot around here, because strong learning starts with strong foundations.
And already, Morgan is becoming more confident. She’s answering without hesitation and asking more questions.
Just like her brother once did.
It’s not just about grades or passing tests.
It’s about watching a family trust you, again and again, with something as important as education.
From a middle schooler to a future nurse, to a young girl starting her own path, we’re here for it all.
At Nurturing Minds, that’s our heart: helping students, of any age, build what they need to grow.
Confidence. Understanding. And the belief that they can do it.

Stories like this are why we do what we do.
Dorian reminded us of the power of persistence.
Kiki showed us it's never too late to chase your dreams.
And Morgan? She’s just getting started.
We’ll be right here, cheering her on, just like we always do.
